4. LEADERSHIP IS EARNED: THE
DIFFICULTIES OF ‘‘BECOMING’’ EXCELLENT LEADERS
- Aware of, not just their own important role, but how everyone else fits it.
- Not being too self-important to ask advice of the people to lead.
- Give people the confidence to speak out when they think there are issues which top management needs to know about.
- Don’t frightened people into silence.
- Let people know their opinions are listened to with due respect.
- figure out how to unlock that (3 – 4) in people.
- Don’t be a corporate apparatchik.
- Learn to cope with rapid change.
- Minimize errors and mistakes.
- Working with a greater rotation of people to acquire new ideas and challenge existing norms.
- Pay attention to feedbacks.
- Be consistent, clear communication with the team in order to build a comprehensive approach to getting the job done.
- Remember, there is no ‘‘I’’ in team.
- Build consensus that dilutes decision making and minimizes impact.
