Getting selected to attend a scholarship interview is only for a privileged few.  Scholarship applications are extremely competitive, so preparation is vital.  Our choice of clothing says a lot about us.  Make a good and lasting first impression.  Make sure the outfit is decent and presentable.  Give the impression that the given opportunity is taken seriously.  Formal clothing works best for interviews.

Interviews can be nerve wracking and sometimes nerves can make you forgets important details.  So be prepared with:
·         A copy of application material
·         A pen and notepad, if there should be a group work
·         A copy of CV or resume

Some of the famous questions the interviewer will ask are about:
1.         Self-perception and values
o   describe yourself
o   list your strengths and weaknesses
o   how you see yourself in future
o   interviewers want to
§  assess your personality
§  see how positively you perceive yourself
o   interviewers look for candidates who
§  have positive attitude
§  have high esteem
§  possess values and ethics
2.         Knowledge of chosen field
o   knowledge of chosen course
o   why you want to study abroad
o   preparation
§  Find out the demand for the course
§  -read up on country you will be going
§  -including culture, practice, climate
3.         Love for your country
o   what is your motivation to study abroad
o   have a sense of loyalty
o   what you think of you nation and how you can contribute as a citizen
4.         Awareness of current issues
o   interviewers want scholars
§  who can become great problem solvers
o   be aware of
§  current world and national events
§  current issues
§  pressing issues that concern the country and propose practical solutions

Take your time when responding to questions.  Speak intelligibly.  Give concise and meaningful answers and avoid rambling.  Do not repeat the same point.  If unclear of question, politely ask for it to be repeated.

Remember to turn off your mobile as there is nothing ruder than your phone ringing in the middle of an interviewer.  At the end of the interview, smile and shake hands with interviewers and thanked them for the time and opportunity.
