BOSSES IN REALITY...

1. HUMANITY?
Saying it and really practicing it are two different things.  you can't show your care for others with only mere words while your people doesn't feel it.  Even though being a boss gives you the right to do as you think fit, but treating others with care, compassion and dignity will give you an extra point.

2. INNOVATIVE IDEAS?
Bosses are always telling their people to be innovative, creative and always pushing new ideas...but in reality, not much is being considered since most are skeptical of change.  Most innovative ideas are being shot down, without even being given the chance to prove the viability of it.

4.BOG DOWN WITH OPERATIONAL WORK?
Top management bosses should concentrate more on strategic planning of the way forward for an organization and not be bog down by day-to-day operational decision.  Determining what to be and which landscape are we in is much more important.  Day-to-day operation can actually be handled by the middle management and monitored only through weekly or monthly reporting.

9. IN CONTROL?
Some bosses just like people to know that they are in control.  You must know who they are and study them, even if they utter the word, "I don't mind."  Be sure not to fall into their trap of humbleness.  So what else can you do except play along with the game.

11. HIERARCHY?
Working in a hierarchical organization is never easy as to be able to get an approval, people need to climb up so many stairs.  Does this constitute 'red-tape'.
'The man who manages the man who manages the man who manages the man who manages the worker.' by Fran

12. OPEN-DOOR?
True, the bosses door are always open.  But do they really listen to what we are saying?  Or is the policy there in accordance with the theory of a good leader?  Without trying to understand the problem or what have been said, bosses usually shot down their opinion, which can we as 'people' really not listen to...?
'I see the boss has made a change in his open door policy.' by Morgan, Ron

13. READY TO LISTEN?

16. PRODUCTIVE MEETINGS?
Meetings are suppose to achieve something, that is to report on progress and also to have decision on some issues, plus to solve some problems faced.  What's a meeting if it doesn't listen to report, have a concrete decision that doesn't change every other meeting, nor does it solve any problems....instead giving more problems for the committee.

21. ACCOUNTABLE?
Every bosses have to be accountable for what's happening in their department.  Do not shift the blame to the people.  Take charge and also take accountability of the charge.

22. TEAMWORK
Teamwork is almost always interpreted as working together towards an objective.  But most bosses in an organization tend to forget the organization's objective because they are too set in achieving their division's objectives, and they are also busy competing with each other to prove to management who is better among them.  Every division has it's boundaries where no other bosses can touch another without the other being defensive.  So where does teamwork fits in?

27. APPROACHABLE?
Some bosses may say they welcome you as they are practicing the good leadership values, but in reality they are unapproachable.  They may be a nice person, a soft spoken person with soft touch and back patting, but you can feel that there is an invisible barb wire around them and you can't get close to them.  You can't feel the warmth of humanity and humility.

It's not happening.  In reality most of the 'old school' bosses still wants you to learn by your own self.  Ask questions if you don't know what, learn if you don't know how.
A great coach provides honest and constructive feedback, even when it's not what the other person wants to hear.
32. OBJECTIVE APPRAISER?
Appraisal is not something you can use empathy and sympathy on.  It has to be objective.  Why?  Because these people that are being appraise are going to be the future leader and bosses.  Appraisal should be divided into more categories such as worker, planner, visionary, ability to strategize.  But bosses tent to give good appraisal to those hard working guys, not those with leadership qualities.  Thus the organization ending having a working leader, and not the LEADER leader.
'Why so tense? First appraisal meeting?' by Aaron, Huw
33. LEADING BY EXAMPLE?
Do bosses really internalize the meaning of leading by example?  Bosses want staff to come early to the office, but do they?  They want staff to go home late so meetings can end late, but don't they know that the staff are still young therefore they have young children to take care of.  Bosses never mixed with the lower ranked staff, never have their meals in the cafe so they can feel and taste what they staff are having...
