ASSESSING ‘FIT FOR ROLE’

We all know that the use of psychometrics in assessing ‘fit for role’ for potential hires.  But what is most important here is the ongoing development of its people and the need to identify the right areas for development.  Many organizations today leave the selection of development needs to the individuals.  This can be seen as a question being asked at the end of the year during assessment where individuals were asked “What would you like to focus on developing this year?”

Researchers have found that ‘self’ is the least accurate assessor of performance and of development requirement.  This is because, it has been known that people rate themselves least accurately on interpersonal skills!  There are three important questions to ask when psychometrics tool is intended to be used:
  1. Is it valid?
    • Does it measure what’s it supposed to measure?
  2. Is it reliable?
    • Does the test yield consistent results?
  3. What are the norms?
