Poor listener may be identified when the person:
  • calls a subject uninteresting
  • criticises the speaker's delivery
  • fakes attention
  • tolerates distractions

Some Causes of Ineffective Listening
Too keen to be the sender
I know what you are going to say
        Distracted too early
Not interested in what you are going to say
        Not interested in the speaker
        Speaker is a poor communicator
        Don't like the speaker
        Too busy to listen
Pre-occupied; possibly with a personal problem
