SIMPLE STORY, POWERFUL LESSONS
THE STORY OF A GRASSHOPPER
One
summer day, a grasshopper was playing in the field when he saw an ant busy
gathering and storing grain in its nest.
“Hey ant, come and play with me,” he said, “instead of working so hard.”
“Oh
no,” the ant replied. “Winter is
coming. I am storing up food for the
winter. I suggest you do the same.”
“Oh,
I can’t be bothered,” said the grasshopper.
“Winter is a long time off. There
is plenty of food.” The grasshopper
continued to dance and sing happily while the ant continued to work.
When
winter came, the grasshopper had no food and was starving when he saw the ant
with lots of food. He went to the ant’s
house and asked, “Can I have some grain, please? Without it, I will starve,” he cried.
“You
danced last summer and now you can continue to dance,” the ant said and did not
give the grasshopper any food. The grasshopper
finally learnt that there is a time to work and a time to play, but it is
always best to prepare for the days of necessity.
