Be that someone: Jorgen Vig Knudstorp, CEO Lego Billund, Denmark

Knudstrop was handpicked by Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen, grandson of Lego founder, as the first outsider to run the family-owned business.  Lego’s name stems from the Danish words Leg Godt, meaning ‘’play well’’.  Kundstrop syas that Legos is all about imagination and creative problem-solving and those are crucial skills for children

Jorgen Vig Knudstrop
1
Everybody in the organization has to work together; a leader isn’t do it alone
2
Have an open ad trusting relationship with stakeholders
-the relationship may not always be smooth
Part of getting along is that you can have conflict
and still get along.
We have disagreements
but they are always resolved behind closed doors

3
Rules out diversification into other products
-Knudstrop observes that companies with single brands such as Apple and Nintendo, tend to do better than those with several
4
Know the importance of brand
5
Leave judgments to the experts
6
Try creating an organization that does not depend on their leader for decisions
7
Get to the truth of what the business is doing right or wrong
8
Avoid complacency when things are going well
9
Never sacrifice brand’s long-term health over short-term financed success
10
Do not measure success on sales because the most important thing is for customers to return for more

It’s so easy when you’re in leadership position
to think how good you’re doing based on all the nice things people say
and dismiss the 1% who complains.
You have to listen extra hard to that 1%
because they usual represent a much bigger portion of silent unhappiness
