A new survey has found that
self-acceptance is the ‘healthy habit’ people struggle with most. A survey was done by Action for Happiness (a
UK charity) on ‘happy’ habits covering these 10 areas:
1. Giving
-how often you make an effort to
help or be kind to others
2. Relating
-how often you put effort into
the relationships that matter to you
3. Exercising
-how often you spend at least ½
hour a day being active
4. Appreciating
-how often you take time to
notice the good things in your life
5. Trying-out
-how often you learn or try new
things
6. Direction
-how often you do
things that contribute to your most important life goals
7. Resilience
-how often you find ways to
bounce back quickly from problems
8. Emotions
-how often you do things that
make you feel good
9. Acceptance
- how often you are kind to
yourself and think you are fine as you are
10. Meaning
-how often you do things that
give you a sense of meaning or purpose
The survey found that practicing self-acceptance
is one thing that could make the biggest difference too many people’s
happiness. The ‘acceptance’ area scores
the lowest. Some of the recommended action
by the program includes;
-being as kind to yourself as
you are to others
-spending quality quit time by yourself
Some of the key habits to leading an
independent life well into old age and keeping chronic disease at bay are:
-being positive
-looking at the brighter side of
things
-enjoying the smaller things in
life
