MAKING THEM LISTEN

BY ELLEN WHYTE,

·         COMPETENCE IS KEY
o   What matters most is your skills and knowledge
o   Studies show there are correlations between effectiveness and leadership
o   Know your stuff and people will listen
·         DON’T PRETEND
o   Studies by psychologists Nalini Ambady and Robert Rosenthal revealed that by observing someone for a few seconds, you can deduce what the person is like with fairly good accuracy
·         QUIT YELLING
o   The most effective leaders were those who are supportive and encouraging
o   You don’t need to be a pushover, dialing the volume down won’t hurt
