HAVING TO SAY YOU'RE SORRY

(LONDON) EVENING STANDARD; THURSDAY 8 NOVEMBER 2012
LOVE MEANS FOREVER HAVING TO SAY YOU'RE SORRY
BY CHARLES SRATCHI

Are you good at apologizing?  There's absolutely no shame in a good opology.  If you can practice apologizing until you become utterly convincing, then everyone's happy.
Psychology Today's Dr. Sam Marguilies is a mediation specialist and considered the master of apology management, believes men and women regard apology from a very different perspective.
6 elements of a proper apology:
1. acknowledge the wrongful act
2. acknowledge that you have hurt her/his feelings
3. express remorse and regret
4. state your intention not to repeat offend
5. offer to make amends
6. seek forgiveness
Forgiveness is an act that liberates the forgiver from their own anger.  But always remember that there is a simpleway of destroying any apology, that is by using the word 'if' like: I am sorry if I hurt you.
Remember instead to always use the 'that' words in I'm sorry that I hurt you, and that it came across wrong.
An apology is a good way to have the last word.
