The scariest
territory in work life is giving performance feedback to difficult people, more
scary if it is your boss. Feedback does
not always mean bad news. It can also
mean appreciating and giving thanks. 13 rules
how to give feedbacks to your boss are:
- Do it as soon as possible
- Do it in private
- Check if it is the right time and place to speak
- Show respect when giving feedback
- Inform your intentions
- Teel your boss upfront what you want to speak about
- Be courteous when you tell your boss how you feel about his behavior
- Focus on one thing at a time
- Be specific, focus on job related behavior and not on personality
- Include the customer and organization in feedbacks
- Get the boss’s input
- Do not leave the bosses in low esteem after an important feedback
- Be brave and give feedback
There
still exist a culture in some organization that doesn’t allow the boss to be
challenged. It may be also because
people don’t want to say anything to their boss for fear of being perceived as
negative or a complainer. The descriptive
‘thank you’ usually work wonders for relationships.
