Derailment
can happen to anyone of us. Individuals go
off track due to both internal and external factors. Two things happen to leaders as they climb
higher up the corporate ladder:
- It’s lonely up there
- It’s not so much about your competence as it is about your character
The important
key area here is:
- EQ
- Have a more balance sense of task and people
Each
transaction in our work life requires both the acquisition of new ways of
working and the letting go of old ways of working in three key areas:
- Skills capabilities
- Working time focus
- values
As
leaders move to a new position, doing the same thing as what had provided them success
previously may not always is the best way.
The most important elements of a person’s success are usually forgotten that
is the job and the culture fit. There are
four quick facts about all of us:
- who you are is more important than what you can do
- lack of self/other awareness
- we are always who we are
- derailment is not inevitable, but without attention to development, it is probable
