SMILE AND THE WORLD SMILES WITH YOU

Smiling is one of the most powerful tools we have to influence other people’s feelings.  This caused the plastic surgeons of South Korea to be busy with the latest facial-enhancing trend – smile surgery!  The Wall Street Journal reported that according to the surgeons, service-industry workers such as flights attendants and consultants frequent the clinics

These further cements the fact that smiling is one of the biggest assets anyone can have, so much so that people are willing to pay, and suffer in pain, for it.  While the act of smiling is not hard, the act of smiling all the time and at everybody might be tiresome and can sometimes be downright impossible.

Some people say:

• You only smile when you’re happy
• A smile has to be genuine and come from within

Human beings have the power to decide, the power to influence and the power to change.  The final step is taking action.  In may sound a tad ridiculous to suddenly be grinning when you’re feeling bad.  But smiling when upset is as effective.  Most of the time our actions convey our feelings.  It is useful to know that our actions can even affect and regulate other people’s feelings.

Smile is principle number two under ‘Making People Like You’ in Dale Carniegie’s How to Make Friends and Influence People.  His advice is, forc yourself to smile.  Act as if you were already happy.  That will tend to actually make you happy.

Smile for others because it means that you believe in your power to influence.  When we smile, we are translating our feeling of joy to others.  You must believe in your power to influence your own emotions from a negative to a positive one.  So, smile, even though and especially when you don’t feel like smiling.  Smile regardless of whether you’re the customer or the staff, the boss or the employee, the parents or the child.

When smiling, give in to the whole action of letting it light up your face.  Smile like your best friend is watching, until it shows in your eyes.  Smile like smiling is worth doing in like, give it your best shot.
