21. THE DEPARTURE
LOUNGE
The
key to retaining people is to create an environment and circumstances whereby
they won’t want to leave. Sometimes
people leave because they don’t think the organization will be able to
accommodate their requests. Loyalty
breeds loyalty and making an effort to support and accommodate people always
pays off in the longer term.
Being
positive about leavers is very important for those who are left behind. Give people a legendary send-off.
The
three (3) things:
1. Be brave – keep helping people working
towards their potential even if this means they might eventually have to move
on
2. Manage round issues to keep good people
3. Say thank you, provide a great send-off
and find out as much as you can
