13. BUILDING OF THE KA’BAH

During one of Ibrahim’s a.s. later visits to Mecca, he informed Ismail a.s. that Allah s.w.t. had given him a major responsibility.  Ibrahim a.s. said that Allah s.w.t. has ordered him to build the house of Allah here.  The angel Jibrail a.s. showed him the place of the Sacred House.
When the two prophets started building, Ibrahim a.s. wanted to distinguishes the corner from which the simple cube-like structure would emanate.  He asked Ismail a.s. to search for a stone to be used as a mark for that starting corner.  Despite his tiredness, Ismail a.s. searched for it but could not find a proper stone.  When he returned he found a white stone sitting in the prescribed corner.  Ismail a.s. asked his father who had brought the stone, for it was white and that area did not have white stones.  Ibrahim a.s. replied that it was Jibrail a.s. who brought he stone from paradise.  Ibrahim a.s. himself did not know how to build the Ka’bah.  Allah s.w.t. guided him in building it.
With Ka’bah built, the order came from Allah s.w.t. for Ibrahim a.s. to call people all over to come for pilgrimage.  Ibrahim a.s. said that his voice would not reached far enough.  They reply came to him to simply call and Allah s.w.t. will assist him.  Ibrahim a.s. climbed the top of Mount Arafat and called loudly for people in all corners of civilization.  Divine miracle also caused people’s hearts to love Ka’bah and to love the pilgrimage to the Holy House.
Ibrahim continued to live in Palestine even after the building of Ka’bah and a civilization developed around Mecca.  Ibrahim a.s. continued hid life of piety and obedience to Allah s.w.t.  Before Ibrahim a.s. passed away, his wife Hajar passed away and was buried in the city of Mecca.  Then Sarah died at an advances age of 127 years old.  Ibrahim a.s. passed away when he was 175 years of age.  Both his sons Ismail a.s. and Ishaq a.s. buried him in Hebron.  All the prophets who came after Ibrahim a.s. were of his offspring, either though the linage of Ishaq a.s. or that of Ismail a.s.
