For some, earning a couple of
hundred bucks could be REAL hard
work. Some tasks are time-consuming,
energy-intense and laborious. Some can
even be a ‘dirty job’ in the real sense of the word.
Spending good many hours to do
REAL hard work is good but is it GOOD work.
Working late and never complaining can sometimes be concluded that the
employees are GOOD just because they are willing to put in some hard work.
Of course everybody agree that
success must come with some degree of hard work. It is common among us to equate hard work to GOOD work.
Some business owners may even have that feeling of uneasiness when
people is not staying back to work extra hours.
This type of business owners usually equates working late with working hard and thus they are good staff.
In reality, the hard working staff may not be producing
good work. They stayed back working
overtime because they take longer time to complete task than others in the same
position. Those who do not stay back do
not mean they do not mean they are not good worker or that their work is not
GOOD. It’s just because they can do the
job faster or in a smarter way.
If all task can and are to be
measured base on pure hard work and the number of hours put in, then
performance and effiency is so easy and straight forward. But it is not as easy as that since
performance should be measured by results.
Hard work is still needed so as to get results. But good
results cannot be obtained by just pure hard work; especially when time is
of the essence.
