6. HUD a.s. AND THE PEOPLE OF ‘AD

The descendents of Nuh a.s. thereafter continued to abide to Nuh’s a.s. teachings.  There was no more Kufr and Shirk during the 350 years that Nuh a.s. lived after the Great Flood.  As generations passed by after his death, some people start to deviate away from Allah’s s.w.t. teachings.  They also indulged in vices and sinful acts.  One such people was a group of Nuh’s a.s. descendents from his son Sam, a tribe called ‘Ad, who lived in a mountainous area near the sea called Al-Shihr, somewhere in Yemen between Orman and Hadramaut.  The name of the valley was Mugheeth.
The ‘Ad community was regarded as one of the most developed communities of its time and its people has beautiful homes and lavish castles.  Their King, Shaddad, build a magnificent palace near Adal known as the Garden of Iram.  They were Arabs who spoke Arabic.
Hud a.s. is the son of Salakh, son of Arfakhshad, son of Sam, son of Nuh a.s.  He belonged to the ‘Ad tribe.  The people of ‘Ad tribe was white, tall, huge and strong.  They were a powerful and wealthy nation.  They were excellent architects and skilled engineers.  The ‘Ad people were powerful and their armies conquered many neighboring lands.
With all these blessings, they were ungrateful to Allah s.w.t.  They began to be proud of themselves.  They became so arrogant.  They even started disbelieving in the existence of Allah s.w.t.  Allah s.w.t. had sent Hud a.s. who was from the ‘Ad tribe to guide his people back to the right path.
Hud a.s. was a well-known man from amongst the ‘Ad.  With all sincerity he advised his people to seek forgiveness from Allah s.w.t.  They completely rejected his advice and admonition.  Finally, Prophet Hud a.s. asked help from Allah s.w.t.  Allah s.w.t. replied that soon his people would be sorry for their rejection of the truth.
The punishment for the arrogant people of ‘Ad started with them being deprived of rain.  Drought set in and fruits started to die followed by the trees and crops.  They began to hope for rain.  Allah s.w.t. sent a black cloud from far which gave them the false illusion of the rain they were hoping for.  Allah s.w.t. sent a strong wind to punish them.  The wind destroyed everything.  Nothing remained from the people of ‘Ad save Prophet Hud a.s. and his band of followers.  That was the end of the people of ‘Ad.
