Benefits of e-mentoring

  • the asynchronous nature of e-mail allows people time for reflection before responding;
  • simply the need to write out your message means that you will consider it in greater depth;
  • location is not an issue;
  • gender, race, power, and other barriers are removed;
  • time is easier to manage, no costly meetings; and
  • a record of the ‘‘discussion’’ exists for later reflection and learning
