10. EMPLOYEE OPINION: THE POWER OF THE PEOPLE
Finding out what people think and feel is the first step forwards being a great place to work and employing inspired, happy and more profitable people.  Employee surveys are for finding out what people think and to let people know that you care what they think.  This will only work If the result of the survey is being acted on.

To encourage employee to participate voluntarily in surveys:
1.      Keep it simple.  Avoid long boring surveys
2.      Make the survey visually attractive.  Use pictures.  Consult smart questions
3.      Give incentives

The topics in the survey that might be included are:

  • How happy and/or satisfied and/or engaged people are
  • Whatever people know, the culture/values
  • Brand
  • Roles and responsibilities
  • Leadership management
  •  Strategy/goal alignment
  • Environment
  • CSR
  • Reward and recognition
  • Ability to fulfill contribution performance of employee
  • Communication
  • Change
  • Ideas and innovations
  • Information of respondents

The three (3) things here
1.      Involve leaders and make sure everyone’s prepared to deal with feedback like adults
2.      If you use a survey, make it’s fun and engaging
3.      Take action so that people know it’s worth giving the feedback next time
