SHARED FROM THE BOOK:
Purple Your People

3. Reputation : Making Yours Great
Most organizations are very good at
creating the desire to buy their products; however, few are experts at
positioning themselves as best place to work.
It’s all about developing clearly defined ‘people promise’ which will
help the organization to attract, engage and retain the best talent. Make
your organization a great place to work and shout about it. If your organization is not a great place to
work, people will know.
Some of the things you can do to
shape your ‘people promise’:
-
Consult your people about what they think and
how well you deliver
-
Ask them what could make it better
-
Treat your people as individuals
-
Introduce of flexible approach to
benefits
-
The way people are led and managed
-
How communications works
-
How things are done around here
-
Commitment to development and
employee progression
-
Recognition
-
Reward
-
Corporate social responsibility
(CSR)
Remember, all the planning in the
world is worth absolutely nothing unless you do something with it. Make a plan and take it a step at a
time. Put some simple measure in place
for monitoring.
Do these three things:
1.
Put some real effort into managing your reputation as an employer
2.
Refine and deliver a great promise to your people
3.
Take things a step at a time and look for the quick wins first to trigger
momentum
