SHARED FROM THE BOOK:
Purple Your People

12. MANAGING
PERFORMANCE
It’s
our job to nurture our people assets as we would any other business assets;
helping them to be the best they can be.
To think of it, there are actually no bad employees, just mismatched
one, poor management and/or a defective organization.
You
reap what you saw when it comes to managing people
Important things to think about when
managing performance:
1. Trust
and belief
·
Believe the people you recruit can fulfill
the role
·
Trust them to get on with it
2. Support
·
Provide the framework, tools,
resources and development
·
Be on hand if people need help or
guidance
3. Respect
·
People might do something’s
differently
·
Remember it’s all about the results
as long as they fulfill the values and are legal and ethical
4. Feedback
·
People need to know how they are
doing
·
Have ongoing feedback
5. Team
excellence
·
Train people to ‘police’ the
standard of work they produce
·
Build self-regulating and
self-supporting team/people
6. Openness
·
Encourage people to-ask questions
- Raise
minor issues
- Ask
for help
7. Consistency
·
Treat people fairly
·
Offer support and tolerance
The three (3) things to do:
1. Nurture and support to enable your people
to be the best they can be
2. Believe
and trust, cultivating adult-to-adult relationships
3. Be very clear from the outset about what’s
required and ‘how we do things around here’
