SHARED FROM THE BOOK:
Purple Your People
Jane Sunley
1. The people stuff: Why it matters
Business success is truly dependent
upon the three (3) ‘I’ s
1. Ideas (innovations and creation)
2. Investment (the life blood of every
organization)
3. Individuals (talented, right roles,
working to their potentials)
There is a clear gap between
recognizing the power of people and delivering a robust people strategy.
Many business leaders and owners are
often so busy dealing with the day-to-day stuff and fighting to survive and
thrive that the subject of people just falls off the bottom of the cost. Most organization doesn’t measure the cost of
replacing a leaver. The big impact
though, is made by the indirect costs including:
-
Knowledge loss
-
Service disruption / quality
-
Drop in productivity
-
Effect on morale
-
Disruption to learn dynamics
-
Effects on reputation
Many organizations recognize that
getting the ‘people stuff’ right is the key
to achieve objectives. There is
clearly a gap when it comes to harnessing the power of individuals to help
deliver business success and growth.
Becoming people centre can’t and won’t happen overnight, but by breaking
the important stuff down into manageable chunks making it possible to achieve
and definitely worth the effort. By
being more focused on the people and their development, we will reap the
benefits of an inspired, developing workforce that to progress the organization
further and achieve greater business success.
