5. Selection: Choosing The Right Talent For Your Business
It’s great to use your network to
identify possible candidate. But do not
let it limit your choice. It’s also
important to have a selection of candidates to compare. Everyone deserves an equal chance. The fab five (5) tips of interviewing are:
1. Write some standard questions

Fair

2. Plan an outline structure

Rapport
building
·
Ask
applicant to talk about him / herself
·
Ask
questions from a list
· Listen carefully
· Probe responses
·
Questioning
techniques
· Ask clear, unambiguous questions
· Ask open questions
· Ask situational questions
· Avoid closed questions
· Avoid leading questions
· Ask a ‘Colombo Questions’ (dumb questions)
when you are stuck
3. Allow sufficient time

40-60
minutes per interview
4. Start to introduce information about
your values
5. Write some notes
There

Have an adult-to-adult,
two way conversation with the candidate.
The three (3) things selection are:

fairly, giving it the time it deserves (or delegate to someone who can)

Prepare
properly and structure your interview
3.
Ask
great questions, listen and probe

So
use them in that proportion and resists overselling the company or role.
