16. Team Dynamics and having fun

 

            If people feel happy and enjoy their work, they’ll be more motivated and productive.  For teams to work well together, people have to understand one another’s motivation.  The fast track to understand team dynamics is using psychometrics.  Or you could have honest conversations with the new people.

            People will work better if they like each other.  Diversity will enhance the organization.  The key thing to look for is people who are sociable and fun.  Team dynamics can be enhanced by having fun.  The balance key is-‘work hard, play hard’.

Suggestions for enhancing fun at work:

·                     Have lunch together

·                     Tell stories

·                     Use humor

·                     Manage time

·                     Share books and discuss them

·                     Learn a language

·                     Learn to dance

·                     Have fun warm-up exercises for team meetings

·                     Don’t take stuff too seriously

·                     Have a company or team trip

·                     Brighten up the environment

·                     Put up employee photo board

·                     Organize birthday celebrations

·                     Present food at meetings

·                     Organize social events

·                     Arrange after-work events e.g. bowling, trips

 

The three (3) things to do

1.         Make sure people understand what drives them and their colleagues

2.         Be big on trust and celebrate mistakes

3.         Be creative - have some fun!
