Dementia is a term describing the symptoms of a large group
of illness that can be result in loss of memory, orientation and social skills
as well as causing changes in personality, behavior and mood which are severe
enough to affect daily function. Dementia
indicates issues with at least two brain functions such as memory loss and
language difficulties or impaired judgment that are significant enough to cause
problems with the ability to perform some daily activities.
There are four (4) main types of progressive dementia:
- Alzheimer’s disease
- Vascular dementia
- Lewy body dementia
- Frontotemporal dementia

- Stick to Mediterranean diet emphasizing on healthy fats, vegetables, fish and fruits.
- Regular exercise helps improve cardio vascular status, functional ability, and reduce fracture risk.
- Keep mind active by taking up activities that are cognitively stimulating like mental games (mahjong, Sudoku, chess) and hobbies like reading, sewing, gardening that give cognitive stimulation.
- Learning something new.
