BAREFOOT LEADERSHIP
THE ART AND
HEART OF GOING THAT EXTRA MILE
ALVIN UNG
CHAPTER 9 AND
10
EVERY PERSON
MATTERS AND YOUR LIFE MATTERS
Every
person created by God is a unique individual.
Respect and value the diversity in others. Stop clustering people into race, class or
religion. Value the spark of dignity
that shines within our souls. There is
neither slave nor master, all are equal.
True greatness lies in one’s ability to see the spark of the divine that
stirs within each human being. To do, we
must believe that
1. every person has dignity
2. every person is a giver
3. even person has a story worth listening
to
·
Listening
to others (listen without judgment, accepting whatever people say, and keeping
it confidential)
·
Listening
to self ( be attentive to the spirit within)
·
Listening
to the world (sensitivity to the world’s pain and joy)
The
heart of everything matters. When your
life matters, even the small things in life matter a great deal. Barefoot leaders live in light of this
reality:
- You are a contribution
- You are a gift
- You are deeply loved
CONCLUSION
THE JOURNEY
CONTINUES
People
do not talk about starting the journey with a single step out of the house,
rambling around the garden, then back in the house. Or embarking on the journey, getting lost and
winding up far away from the destination.
In the
ART and HEART of Barefoot Leadership, need to focus on doing and being. The norm is that most leaders are preoccupied
with doing. Management guru, Dave Ulrich
conducted a research in Malaysia that indicates 90% of CEOs in Malaysia are
operational leaders. Most are focused on
the art of doing, not being.
